Awful experience. We took a young woman we were trying to help to Slyvia Brafman after she was baker acted. They do not focus on mental health. The staff is a revolving door which only tells me they don’t treat their employees right. This is a drug and alcohol rehab but I would never take a loved one there for this they will probably return worse. When I reached out to the management they did not respond. For a place that claims they want to help they don’t. To top it off she was billed for a bunch of treatment she did not receive. Stay away!

They should be punished to the fullest degree of state Florida law. I don’t even need to rate my experience to tell you they are absolutely in line to be the next shutdown Treatment Center in this mockery of an industry.

Really caring place…. they go above and beyond to help…. even if they can’t.

Sylvia Brafman is a great opportunity for both dual diagnosis (mental illness and addiction) as well as just mentally ill clients. It focuses on education, processing traumatic events, self-esteem building, understanding upbringings, and much more. There are several groups throughout the day as well as primary groups, which are smaller more intimate groups, and a one on one therapy session 1-2 times a week. There are also days in which we do art, yoga, and play games. At night time, we are expected to prepare our own dinner and keep the apartment clean. After dinner, we go to various types of meetings where we get to interact with more people and learn from others. On the weekends, an exciting trip is usually planned or a day at the pool. It is an amazing facility because you do not feel like a complete “sick patient,” but more of a human. The technicians love to get to know you and give you positive talks and the therapists are extremely talented. Each and every client brings something to the table, which makes the experience even better. Overall, the program was great because there was a balance of independence in the apartments, mental health recovery, addiction recovery, leisure, and education. I would highly recommend going here.

Life before Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center was tumultous for everyone, but especially for my son. I was in denial about his addictions. We knew that there were some mental health issues and compounded with the substance abuse, our son was impossible to be around. When SBMHC did not prove to be a long enough program for him, the therapists at SBMHC recommended a long term, residential treatment center.

I truly believe that SBMHC was the beginning of a life saving, life altering journey for my son. In fact, it has been a life altering journey for me. Thanks to SBMHC I have learned not to be an enabler. After 18 months, I still attend Family Night each Wednesday.

Life after SBMHC–what can I say. Life is totally different. I have learned to live “Just for Today” and to celebrate each day that my son is able to stay clean and sober–15 months and counting. While he is still out of state and I miss him terribly, SBMHC has helped me to learn that being away is a good thing for him for the moment.

For the rest of my life, I will be indebted to SBMHC for their help in treating my son and teaching me how to be supportive in a healthy, positive manner. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving my son and our family.
